| Information Gran Canaria: Is approximately 650 miles to the south west of Europe and 120 miles from the African coast. The most southerly and largest of the Canary Islands. I have been told, although geography was never my strong point, that if you stand at the lighthouse (Faro) that this is the southernmost tip of Europe. Gran Canaria is a mini continent in itself with a mix of climates. Weather pages on the internet will give you an average temperature at least 2 or 3 degrees lower than the one you will experience in the south of the island. Cloudy on your arrival at Las Palmas airport does not neccesarily mean that the resort itself will not be bathed in glorious sunshine, it nearly always is! The mountain ranges are spectacular and you can get an idea of their majesty when travelling into the resort, if you can bring yourself to break away from the beaches and shopping then make sure you visit the interior, a truly unforgettable experience. Playa Del Ingles: The resort itself caters for an eclectic mix of visitors. If you want to shop there are a number of centres dedicated to the art! Bargains galore or specialist shops are situated at almost every turn. If the only reason you have come here is to top up the tan, then I can think of nowhere else within 4 hours of the UK, where the sunshine is almost always guaranteed and that provides as much beach as the one that runs from Play Del Ingles, along the side of the Maspalomas dunes and ends at the lighthouse (Faro) near the all inclusive resorts in Meloneras. I defy you not to tan, just make sure you don't burn! Iguazu Apartments: Round the corner from the Yumbo centre on the Avenida Tirajana, there are 2 swimming pools, 2 tennis courts, you can even get a tennis lesson, if you want to be that energetic! The complex also includes numerous restaurants, frequented by locals, always a good sign of quality. How To Get There: 25 minutes from the airport, hire a car and head for Playa along the motorway or get a taxi, always readily available and relatively inexpensive - approx 30 euros. If you want to you can even get a bus that will drop you off approximately 100 yards from the apartment. The bus service is the number 66 and you catch this from the airport, on our last visit the fare was just over 3 euros, it leaves the airport at 20 past the hour and operates until 22:20. Flights: Flights from the UK can vary by price quite considerably, we have flown from most UK airports and used most companies, here are a few that we would reccomend. flythomascook.co.uk thomsonfly.com easyjet.co.uk ryanair.com | |
